Glossary
Every term you're gonna hear in your first session and quietly not understand. Bookmark this so nobody has to explain Triumph mid-combat again, we're begging.
Dice Results
- Success / Failure: did the thing work, yes or no. These cancel each other one for one, like a tiny courtroom drama inside your dice pool.
- Advantage / Threat: the bonus or complication riding shotgun with the result. Also cancel one for one.
- Triumph: a success so good it does something extra. The universe is briefly on your side.
- Despair: the opposite of Triumph. The universe was never on your side and wants you to know that.
Character Resources
- Soak: how much damage your body or armor just shrugs off before it actually hurts.
- Wound Threshold: how much physical damage you can eat before things get bad.
- Strain Threshold: your mental and physical stamina. Stress, fear, and pushing yourself too hard all cost strain.
- Experience Points (XP): earned every session, spent on new skills, talents, or getting objectively better at your job.
Obligation & Duty
- Obligation: the debt, grudge, or drama your character dragged into the game with them. It comes due at the worst possible moment, on purpose, because that's funnier.
- Duty: what your character owes some bigger organization, in exchange for rank and resources. Basically a job with worse hours.
The Destiny Pool
- Light Side Point: spent by players to help their own roll or make an NPC's day worse.
- Dark Side Point: spent by the GM to make your day worse instead. Spending either one flips it to the other side, so it's basically tug of war.
Building a Character
- Career: your character's broad calling, like Bounty Hunter or Smuggler. Picked once at creation, so choose wisely, this is basically a whole personality now.
- Specialization: a focused path within your career, like Assassin or Pilot. You can pick up more than one over time, because commitment issues are canon.
- Talent: a passive ability learned from a specialization tree, bought with XP.
- Characteristics: your six core stats: Brawn, Agility, Intellect, Cunning, Willpower, and Presence. Yes, you can be strong and dumb. It's called flavor.
